Who We Are

Our mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence.

Family Promise of Aiken County is a developing affiliate

We officially began development in late Spring 2019. When we started, we intended to provide transitional housing to homeless families using the Family Promise hospitality model. This rotational shelter model engages a network of community partners, often faith communities, to house families with children in different locations each week.

By March 2020, we had signed agreements with four host congregations:

  • Aiken Unitarian Universalist Church

  • Aiken's First Baptist Church

  • St Paul Lutheran Church

  • First Presbyterian Church

We secured over $30,000 in community grants and donations to support our operations without any significant fundraising efforts.

As we actively sought commitments from other congregations, we were optimistically planning on a Fall 2020 launch.

With the realization that the COVID-19 pandemic would be changing all our lives, we quickly realized that we would not be able to launch the traditional host model for Family Promise in Aiken County within a reasonable timeframe.

In response, we made a ‘pivot to prevention’ to provide meaningful support to our vulnerable families in a timely manner. Our long-range goal is to implement the hospitality model in Aiken County, which will provide transitional shelter and warm hospitality through host congregations to families in need.
