Amanda Crooks

Director of Programs

Amanda joined Family Promise of Aiken County in June 2025. In this role, Amanda leads the strategic development, management, and evaluation of programs to ensure alignment with organizational goals and best practices. Amanda oversees daily program operations, collaborates with the Family Coach on client services, supports complex cases, and ensures accurate documentation and reporting. She also works closely with the Board on strategic initiatives, reporting, and compliance; assists with fundraising, grant support, and donor relations; and engages with community partners to strengthen visibility and impact.

Amanda brings over 20 years of experience in client services, counseling, coaching, program management, and career development. Amanda holds national and international credentials as a Board-Certified Coach, Certified Master of Career Services, and Global Career Development Facilitator.

Originally from the mountains of North Carolina, Amanda spent five years in Raleigh, where she began her career at Family Promise of Wake County. She holds a Master of Divinity with counseling concentration from Campbell University and has completed postgraduate work in vocational rehabilitation counseling.

Amanda is passionate about inspiring and equipping individuals to rise above their challenges and live into their full potential. She’s excited about strengthening the programs of Family Promise of Aiken County to empower families with children on a path of transformation that breaks the cycle of housing insecurity.

Laura Johnson

Family Coach

Laura joined Family Promise of Aiken County in August 2021 as our case manager, which we call a Family Coach. In this role, Laura is responsible for directly supporting families with minor children that are experiencing housing instability. Laura identifies and engages families in need, develops individualized goal plans, coordinates referrals, and provides consistent follow-up to help families achieve stability. Laura also collaborates with the Director of Programs and provides feedback to the Board to help achieve strategic goals.

Laura joined our team with 20 years of case management experience. A native of Greensboro, GA, Laura has been an Aiken resident for over a decade. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia College & State University. She spent 13 years with the Georgia Department of Corrections (DOC), including seven years working in case management. Following her time with the DOC, she earned a Certificate of Ministry from Columbia International University School of Missions’ Master’s Program.

Laura then spent 13 years in full-time missions with the Salvation Army, helping families to obtain safe, affordable housing. As a Salvation Army Mission Specialist, she was given the opportunity to live in the communities that she was assigned for ministry. Laura served in Columbia, SC for two years and eleven in Aiken County with a focus on building lasting relationships with those in need of assistance. During her time with the Salvation Army in Aiken, Laura completed a Master of Leadership degree from Trevecca University.

Laura feels truly blessed to be the Case Manager for Family Promise of Aiken County. She has two sons and two grandchildren. She enjoys walking and reading in her free time.

Holly Strother

Community Engagement Specialist

Holly joined Family Promise of Aiken County in June 2025. In this role, Holly is responsible for advancing our mission and goals through strategic outreach, fundraising, and communications. Holly is responsible for building and nurturing community relationships, sharing critical information with our stakeholders, managing volunteer engagement, and representing the organization at public events. Holly also collaborates with the Board and Fundraising Committee to execute fundraising strategies, support program goals, and assist with administrative and board-related tasks. Originally from Pinehurst, NC, she has enjoyed living in Aiken since 2023. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Gardner Webb University and a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Religion from Gardner Webb University. Holly served in the church ministry setting for nine years in NC and has recently transitioned to working in higher education. Holly enjoyed getting involved in mission work in NC and found a passion for food and housing security work. She is looking forward to the opportunity to walk alongside community members, helping Family Promise of Aiken County building connections and strengthen relationships with like-minded organizations to achieve a shared mission of housing security for all children in Aiken County. Holly has a love for theatre arts and biblical studies and spends her free time reading or at jer church, Aiken’s First Baptist. She and her husband, Matthew, are doting parents of a goldendoodle, Copper, who they say is a dog who has never met a stranger.
